Woodchat Shrike
Hambledon, Hampshire, 8th May 2006
Having only seen one Woodchat before in the UK (a rather distant first summer female at Minsmere a good few years ago - click here for a photo taken that day... those were the days!), the appearance of one just up the road from university was welcome. The pager messages and images on the net indicated that the bird was showing well, and this definitely proved to be the case. This female bird sat around in the open on posts and twigs down to around 10 metres, eventually in good light, and I got some pleasing images. Here is a small selection of low resolution versions of some of the 1100 images taken.
