Having not attempted to see the Upland Sandpiper in Cornwall due to it being so elusive and the drive, news of one in north Somerset was most welcome. I arrived to find birders scanning the grassy seawall which stretched away into the middle distance, so initially it didn't look like I'd be getting any photos. However, as I approached I saw what I immediately recognised as the Upland Sandpiper walking around on the bank about 30 yards away. Despite some very loud talking from birders, the bird eventually walked up on top of the bank, about 17 metres away, and was duly nailed. An excellent individual showing very well, and a contender for bird of the year for me.
