The Gambia, West Africa, 28th November to 12th December 2008
I spent 2 weeks in The Gambia in November/December 2008 with top photographer Bill Baston , based at the Senegambia hotel on the coast south of the capital Banjul. We spent 5 days upriver, catching up with pretty much all our target species.

Extensive trip reports detailing the best sites etc can be found on
Surfbirds.

A local guide is the best way of finding the birds you want to see. We hired Modou Colley, a keen conservationist as well as an excellent birder with unbeatable knowledge of the birds and the best places to find them. Check out Modou's
website

The photography opportunities were superb, so much so that I've had to split the thumbnail galleries into 3 pages! We were delighted with the haul of images, I hope you enjoy browsing them too. Click on the links below to access different parts of the systematic list, each with links to the individual species photo galleries (scroll down for an index of which birds are on which page) If the galleries fail to load quickly, try
