| Thanks for visiting my website.
I am currently 22 years old and have been birding for around 10 years. During that time I've indulged in various aspects of the hobby, including local patching, twitching and foreign birding. I first attempted photography through the digiscoping craze in 2001/2002, but wasn't very good at it, and as I did a lot of birding with local photographer Bill Baston, the temptation of proper cameras and lenses was too much. I eventually decided to take the plunge and go straight for some nice Canon D-SLR gear, namely an EOS 10D, 500mm IS f4 and Gitzo tripod/Wimberley head set-up. While the 10D was (and is) a very capable camera, the improvements offered by the much more lively 20D tempted me into an upgrade at the beginning of 2005. However, the vast success of the 1D Mark II and 1D Mark II N highlighted the advantages of the pro-series bodies, and with the introduction of the superbly equipped 1D Mark III, it was time to upgrade again. I have been very impressed with all aspects of its' performance. In the past I have largely devoted this site to my rarity photos. I enjoy seeing and photographing new species in the UK but don't really keep lists etc. It can be difficult getting decent shots of rare birds with crowds of people about (and only one bird to aim for!), and often just seeing the bird is satisfactory! but sometimes it's possible to get some pleasing photographs which go beyond just record shots, so I hope you enjoy these, whether you saw that particular bird or just enjoy bird photography! I have been fortunate enough to have around 200 images published in the various monthly magazines, and have won the Surfbirds.com/Birdwatching photo of the month competition on 11 occasions. My luck with rarities also resulted in being voted the Birdforum.net "Best Photographer of the Year for 2006", in the inaugural Birdforum "Birders" Awards, which was nice. However, recent trips to America in Summer/Autumn 2007 and India in Winter 2007, (added to less twitching due to the increasingly tedious UK scene!) have resulted in the decision to revamp the site (yet again) and add lots of new material. I hope you enjoy browsing the new images, if you have any comments or questions, please email me or sign the guestbook!
